Hi everyone, if you are following me on Twitter, you might have seen my tweet about Lisa Eldridge’s latest video featuring a runway inspired look. This look mainly consists of red eyeshadow and black eyeliner. Super edgy, trendy and loud. I like it very much and this is my attempt to replicated it, please let me know what you think.
Lisa was right, it’s not for everyone. I will not wear it out shopping but would consider wearing this look for a costume party or some high-fashion event. I tried to follow as closely to her tutorial as I can so here’s my version.

For face: I went for something very natural, as close to my skin tone as possible. I moisturized my skin with Clinique Moisture Surge and applied a thin layer of Make Up For Ever HD Primer #2 to take away any redness I have on my skin. Applied Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long-Lasting Foundation SPF 15 PA+++, conceal dark circles with Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit and set with Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder.
For eyes: I kept my brows neat and natural for this look – I only filled in the gaps and defined the shape slightly. Applied Urban Decay Primer Potion to the lids and went straight to applying MAC Cream Colour Base in Movie Star Red starting from the upper lash line. At this point, map out the shape you want your eyeshadow to be. Blend to soften the edges lightly. Gently pat MAC Matte Eyeshadow in Louder, Please over Movie Star Red. Blend the edges. I did the same thing for my lower lash line and added a little matte white eyeshadow to highlight my brow bones.
After all the red eyeshadow, I rimmed my eyes with a black eyeliner and applied a black cream liner to my upper lids. I winged it out and tidied up the edges with some matte black eyeshadow. In the video, Lisa didn’t use false eyelashes on the model but for me, it seemed a little naked. You can go for a more natural and shorter pair of lashes but here, I am using some big lashes by MAC.
For cheeks and lips: I happen to have Chanel Joues Contraste in 99 Rose Pétale which Lisa used in her video. It’s the perfect shade of blush for this look – soft and subtle. I chose L’Occitane Incredible Lip Shine for the natural lips look. This lip gloss comes clear but turns pink-ish on the lips, very natural. I also happen to have Illamasqua Lipstick in Atomic for the bold lips look – which was what she used on the model as well.
Some tips for creating this look, I think it’s better to avoid any base with a pink undertone, like Clinique BB Cream. It will make the entire face look pink – something you don’t want. The most challenging part is finding the right red and I believe there is a red eyeshadow for everyone, just like red lipsticks. Do a patch test on your lids and see if the colour works for your skin tone. And the most time-consuming part for me is getting the black eyeliner even because my eyes are uneven.
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process. It’s only makeup.
Thank you for looking.
