Laura Mercier Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator

Haven’t been getting any thing from Laura Mercier (except their amazing range of makeup brushes) in a long, long time until this came along in their Moonlight Makeup Collection For Holiday 2011. The Laura Mercier Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator that is, apparently sold out everywhere.

The Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator is a face illuminator with a soft rose-gold shimmer which is perfect for highlighting on the cheek bones. According to the brand, this product has a unique formula that includes high pearl levels and provides buildable long-wearing colour with an exceptionally smooth application. It is also formulated without parabens.

When I was in Hong Kong end of last month, I chanced upon the collection – Laura Mercier have just brought the collection in when I was there, not sure if they still have it. If you would like to pick one up, you might want to try our local stockists True Colours. I believe it’s not available (yet) because when I asked about it, no one had any idea and I didn’t see it on the displays.

The Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator comes in Laura Mercier’s signature brown, plastic casing similar to their Foundation Powder compact but slimmer. It also comes with a mirror. It’s light and sturdy but I wish it comes in a special packaging but having said that, it would have been priced differently.

This product contains 6g of product, made in Italy. I cannot remember the exact price of this item but I believe it’s under or around S$70 in Hong Kong.

Aren’t the 3 dimensional embossed floral motives beautiful? The product doesn’t smell of anything although I wish it’s somehow scented – it would have been perfect wouldn’t it?

It is very pigmented. A little goes a long way and I like that it is buildable. The texture is ultra soft, feels almost like a cream – the powder is so finely milled that when it touches the skin, it feels like it has melted into the skin. It could be due to its cream-to-powder texture, I feel that it doesn’t enhance fine lines and pores although it has a frosty, metallic finish.

Went through my stash of frosty, metallic highlighters for a little comparison below. And I know you will be wondering how it compares to Guerlain Cruel Gardenia Météorites released just a few days ago – I have it all covered.

Laura Mercier Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator is the most pigmented amongst all, it has a very similar texture and feel to Guerlain Cruel Gardenia Météorites but warmer and brighter. Guerlain Cruel Gardenia Météorites is lighter and less metallic. Colour payoff and texture wise, Bobbi Brown Party Shimmer Brick (reviewed here) came rather close but it feels dryer to touch. MAC Special Reserve Highlight Powder in Rosé Olé and Chez Chez Lame were nowhere near.

Laura Mercier Rose Rendevous Face Illuminator is a great addition to my collection of highlighters, not to mention its beautiful design. Like Bobbi Brown Party Shimmer Brick, I appreciate its finish but I am not sure how often I will use it. But I actually enjoy wearing this more than the Bobbi Brown’s because the colour is more wearable on me and rose-gold is just gorgeous.

Thank you for reading.

  1. This highlighter was already in store early Dec last year. I contemplated abit due to its frostiness and passed it. And when I was at Sunway mall (KL) in late Dec, I poped by LM counter and feel like wanting to have it and ended up paying couple of dollars less than retail in SG. Then in early Jan, SA at True colors told me its been sold out. The SA you spoke to might have just started work!!
