Femme Boulevard: A Timeless Look For Brides

Femme Boulevard_A Timeless Look For Brides (1)

This month’s Femme Boulevard edition is very special because of two things. First thing, let’s welcome a new member – gorgeous Lilit ofMakeup and Macaroons from Sydney. Check out her first look for Femme Boulevard here.

Second thing, I am sure you noticed the unusual dressing and hairdo I have tonight – I am wearing a kua which brides wear during Chinese weddings traditionally.

This month, I have put in a special request for a bridal look because today is the actual day of my wedding – I did this look a few days ago and thought it would be nice to feature the kua with matching hair accessories.

Please check out what Lily and Teri have for you tonight – I can’t wait to see their looks as always. Thanks ladies for doing this look together with me on this special day.

I hope you like this look and for brides-to-be, I hope you find this look inspiring and helpful.

Face
A smooth and natural base is crucial on weddings because you don’t want to look too white nor too dark. If you are doing your own makeup, try a variety of foundations – try to snap pictures under natural day light as well as artificial night light, with and without flash.

It’s important to know how the foundation looks on you under different lighting, make sure you are happy with the results. Ask for samples to try before committing.

Eyes
For this look, I went for something I am most comfortable with – soft, smoky eyes. Try to have something a little darker than you normally would because in flash photography, the colours need to be slightly stronger to show.

  • Apply MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder and blend over lids as a base.
  • Featuring Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 774 Golden Savannah – I am trying a slightly muddy green/brown palette instead of the usual browns and golds, I quite like the results. Apply mid-tone brown all over lids and blend up to crease.
  • Apply shimmery olive onto lids and use shimmery brown to soften edges.
  • Apply black eyeliner and use dark olive to soften the line.
  • Use dark olive to softly smoke up the lids.
  • Apply mid-tone brown along lower lash line and accentuate outer corners with shimmery olive.
  • Apply mascara and false eyelashes.
  • Apply mascara to bottom lashes.

Cheeks
Sculpting and highlighting are very important. Without them, I look flat – I went for very natural contours along the cheek bones with Make Up For Ever Sculpting Kit and use Chanel Shimmer Glow Powder to highlight cheek bones.

Use a matte blush to freshen up/add colour to the face. I have chosen Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Tweak.

Lips
Try not to use anything nude – I, for sure will look flat. I went for a rosy shade and Givenchy Rouge Interdit in 56 Delicate Rose is perfect. Remember to match your lips with your cheeks, the entire look will be a lot more complete.

Thank you for looking.

  1. Hey Joey, way to go! It’s a genius idea to go with Golden Savannah! I have it and love it too, but didn’t really think it’d be wedding material! The result is so lovely! I also like how you say not to go with a nude lip. I’d also look really, really boring that way and you don’t want that for your big day (or any day to be honest)!

    • Hello Sunny,
Thank you so much for your kind comments =)
I didn’t think it was too but after I tried it, I actually used it for my actual day!!
Yeap, no to nudes (certain tones of course)..

  2. Looking beautiful! I can’t wait to see more photos on your actual wedding day!

  5. Joey, I’m in love with the cheek look your created. I don’t have Illamasqua in Tweak but I shall explore my stash and go for a similar shade.
    I’m sure you’d make a beautiful bride when your D-Day comes 🙂

  6. I love your wedding related makeup posts! And your Chinese wedding dress is so refreshing within beauty blogs.

Wishing you both great happiness and joy on your wedding day.
