5 Of My Sunburn Savers

Lying on the warm fine sand, staring up at the clear blue sky and swimming in the crystal clear ocean is simply too irresistible during a beach getaway. I did not lay on the warm fine sand nor did I swim in the crystal clear ocean but I got badly burnt from my trip to Bali last month. So, in this post, I would like to share with you the 5 products which healed my peeling skin and why I like them.

At times, sun block just doesn’t do the job and if you are like me who just want to have some fun under the sun, be prepared.

If you follow me on Twitter, you would have probably seen pictures I tweeted the day my skin peeled so badly. It’s the worst peeling I have ever encountered. My sheets were filled with my skin and to be honest, it’s really disgusting.

1. Jurlique Moisture Replenishing Mask

A gentle purifying mask, rich in the living energy of soothing groomwell and sichuan peppercorn to clarify, hydrate and soothe. Leaves delicate skin feeling soft, pure and revitalised.

It’s a little cooling when I applied over my burnt face. The creamy texture spread over my entire face smoothly and quickly. I leave it on for approximately 15 mins, rinse off with cooling tap water and pat dry with a face towel. My skin feels clean, fresh and more supple without any dry patches after using it. I even applied a little over my shoulder and back because they are the worst affected areas.

2. Jurlique Chamomile Soothing Mist

A gentle soothing mist, infused with the living energy of chamomile and marshmallow to calm, tone and soothe. Leaves the skin refreshed. Ideal for rebalancing sensitivity.

Right after the mask or when needed, I sprayed this mist all over my face and body. Instead of rubbing onto the skin or leaving it to dry, I used my fingertips to gently pat misted areas until product is fully absorbed into the skin. It feels very refreshing and eases the itching. It doesn’t leave skin feeling sticky at all. Is it just me, I think it smells of milk?

3. L’Occitane Citrus Verbena Sorbet Cream

Enriched with moisturizing lemon, this splendid body cream softens and awakens skin. Its light and pleasing texture provides a refreshing and cooling sensation, leaving skin feeling smooth and delicately perfumed with the sparkling scent of citrus and verbena.

On usual days, I tend to be lazy and skip body moisturizers. But I can’t afford to during this stage. Straight after my shower, I apply the Citrus Verbena Sorbet Cream all over my body. I massage gently in circular motions onto my skin until the product sits in. I even go for a second layer on certain areas. Although it says cream, this product is very light in texture and it’s not greasy to touch. I am liking the smell a lot.

4. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

The skincare classic that soothes, restores, calms and helps relieve chapped, cracked, dry skin. Soothes roughness, redness and minor skin irritations.

  • Helps protect, soothe and moisturize skin.
  • Soothes dry skin and provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • Soothes and comforts minor weather burns, scrapes and abrasions.

I actually picked this up at the airport on our way to Bali. Perhaps subconsciously I knew I was going to get burnt? Anyway, I only use this during the night because I feel that this product is too greasy for the humid weather in Singapore. But I must say, the Eight Hour Cream is amazing. It does exactly what it claims to do.

5. Biotherm Source Therapie

A fresh, velvety-soft gel texture with no shiny or sticky effect.
A fresh agrance reminiscent of waterfalls.

I have been using this on and off for years, say 6 years? They have a new improved version now, but I am still using the old one. I always have one bottle in the fridge so it feels more cooling (shiok) when applying. It helps to hydrate and even up my skin tone. The texture is light, non sticky which I love and suits local context real well.

I hope this list of products will come in handy to some of you who are planning on a trip to the sunny shores or if you are suffering from peeling skin. Pictures below were taken during the worst days of my peeling.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

  1. I used to use Biotherm Source Therapie. I feel that the initial phase of using it gave maximum results but after a few months, I can’t see the difference any more. Do you face the same problem?

  2. Thanks for sharing those peeling skin pictures.

Now we need is a recommendation of a good vacuum cleaner! :-), I can imaging how messy that can be.

Jurlique is great, especially the soothing range for reactive skin. I have a tube of 8 hours cream for S.O.S therapy as well.

I hope you have now incorporated an anti-pigmentation regime, especially on those burnt areas. You may not noticed any pigmentation or discolouration yet, but you eventually will – I am not trying to scare you, this is my personal experience, I now noticed some sun blemishes over my shoulder & upper arms, and the last time I sunbathed ( with SPF, obviously inadequate ) was 2007!

    • Lol..
Yes, I need a vacuum cleaner!!
I am taking extra care of my skin after this burn, cos of my age etc..
Went for a session of Silk Peel, going for a session of IPL soon =)
