The YSL Palette Blanc Terriblement Face Highlighter is one of the few items I picked up from Switzerland. It’s part of their Look Noël Makeup Collection For Holiday 2011 and it’s Limited Edition.
It’s a complexion illuminator palette with a shimmering silver, shimmering pink and shimmering blue. According to the YSL website, the three white hues will delicately lit up with precious pearls, catching the light like a magnet to give an absolute glow effect.
This product contains 10.8g and is made in France.
This palette comes with a detachable black pleated band. As mentioned in my previous post, I still haven’t figured out what else I could do with this elastic band, any suggestions? The packaging and casing are exactly the same as their Pure Chromatics Eyeshadow Palettes. It’s such a shame that I am not a fan of their golden casing – it tarnishes and needs regular cleaning.
On hand, it swatches very white and looks chalky – do note that it’s quite a heavy swatch because I wanted to show you the differences between each white shade. When blended, it gives off a very soft sheen which catches the light incredibly well.
From left, we have a shimmery silver – the most pigmented and glittery of all three, a shimmery pink – which contains iridescent pink pearls and shimmery voilet – the coolest and most subtle of all and it contains blue-ish iridescent pearls.
The texture of all three whites are very smooth and not gritty. It feels a little powdery but the product adheres to the skin relatively well except the shimmery silver where I experienced bits of flying glitter during application – not a lot but noticeable. Because the shades are divided equally into three potions, I was able to mix and match the colours accordingly. And I must admit, I try to avoid the shimmery silver some times.
Despite having problems loving the shimmery silver, I actually quite like how this palette wears on me. It captures the light very beautifully especially on the cheek bones – natural yet sophisticated.
I usually apply it on my cheek bones and under my brow bones as pictured above for a soft glowy touch of radiance. A fluffy brush like MAC 225, Inglot 6SS or Shu Uemura 14H are perfect for highlights as such. To complete, I usually pair this highlighter with a satin or matte blush. Here, I am using Givenchy Le Prisme Blush in Blooming Fuchsia.
Due to the nature of this product, it emphasizes pores ever so slightly.
Overall, I really like it. Is it a must-have? I don’t think so because I believe that there are many highlighters out there which can perform similar tasks.
Thank you for reading and I hope this entry helped.
It’s very pretty, but I prefer creamy formulations.
Creams are so much easier to blend and looks more natural but the weather in Singapore is too humid for creams IMO..
I am always worried that it will smear or gets too greasy =(
Or, I will set it with powder – defeats the point ey?
You know what, you got me totally hooked on highlighters. I must not stare at this too hard in case I decide to buy it.
Highlighters are my bestfriend!!
It helps so much in makeup, enhances parts which are essential =)
Thanks for the review! Now I may not rush out to buy!
You are most welcome!!
