Clinique Almost Lipstick In Black Honey & Luscious Honey

Beginning of the year, I received a press sample of the Clinique Almost Lipstick in Luscious Honey and it reminded me of the Black Honey I bought a while ago. For more information of the Clinique Almost Lipsticks, please check out the introductory post here.

In this post, I shall share my thoughts about them including lip swatches.

The Clinique Almost Lipsticks are already available at all Clinique counters island-wide. Each retails at S$33 for 1.9g of product, made in USA. Available in 7 flattering shades including the cult favourite – Black Honey.

The Clinique Almost Lipstick comes in a slim, streamline metal packaging – not the most attractive but definitely user-friendly. The packaging is light and handy – literally fits into any space available and in between.

According to the website, Clinique describes these lipsticks as transparent pigment merges with the unique, natural tone of your lips to create something wonderful and yours alone. Sheer, glossy. Emollient-rich and very lightweight.

As the name of this product suggests, the formula is really – almost lipstick. It’s not a lipstick, not yet a gloss – more like mixing a bit of lip colour to a pot of lip balm. I find the formula smooth and doesn’t require any effort to apply – glides onto the lips seamlessly. The formula is also very moisturizing on the lips.

Onto the colour, they are – almost lipstick. When swatched on the hand, it appears sheer but once applied onto the lips, the true colour comes alive. Due to the nature of these lipsticks, being sheer and translucent, the colours might look different on everyone (because our lip colour differs).

The texture is soft and buttery – it feels very light on the lips, as if I am not wearing anything. They are not creamy like traditional lipsticks nor waxy/sticky like certain lip balms or lip glosses.

Black Honey is a deep, blackened raisin colour which flatters all skin tones. On my lips, it’s like a deepen berry with a brown undertone. On the other hand, Luscious Honey is brighter and younger, almost like a strawberry pink stain on my lips. Both offers a soft, shiny sheen on the lips.

Surprisingly, both colours lasted pretty well on my lips – able to hold through a meal and a couple of drinks.

I think the Clinique Almost Lipsticks are suitable for those who likes a sheer wash of colour on the lips, especially if you like a pop of colour but still want to keep it down. Some of the colours are bright yet wearable which also makes them work-friendly. With these lipsticks, I don’t have to tone them down with a lip balm or any lip glosses – they are quite handy in the morning when I am running short of time.

Which colour do you like better, Black Honey or Luscious Honey?

Thank you for reading.

  1. I like the look of Lucious honey, I tried Black honey before but somehow it didn’t go well with my skin tone. I’m not sure why? Have you tried the Revlon lip butters? If you have, how do they compare? Somehow I feel these are way better than revlon.

    • Hi Jacqueline,
      How have you been?
I have swatched the Revlon Lip Butters but didn’t purchase any so I can’t compare =(
Have you tried other shades of Almost Lipsticks?

  2. both look great on you! Black honey looks so different on you as compared to when i wear it. I’m so glad it’s finally back on our shores. This was one of my first lipsticks back then in the 90s. I have used up several of it up to now.

    • Hi RegReg,
