Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum+

Shiseido launched a new and improved version of their Nº 1 top-selling product last week (view rest of the 9 most loved products here). The White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum introduced in 2010 will be replaced with a more potent member, the White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum+.

For more information about the Serum+, please view my previous post here.

The packaging of the Serum and Serum+ is almost identical – only a slight difference in colour. The scent, texture and consistency of both serums are also similar to me. But of course, the ingredients differ as the new Serum+ includes MelanoCrush Energizer which targets trouble spots and crushes melanin. It also consists of 4MSK which regulates cell turnover whereby darkened melanin is smoothly removed.

The Serum+ bares a mild floral scent which helps to relax our mind when applying. The texture is smooth and silky and the consistency is watery – very much like thicken water. Due to the lightweight texture of this product, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all.

Shiseido suggests applying their White Lucent Brightening Balancing Softener prior to the serum to help it penetrate into our skin easier. There is also a set of massaging technique to go along with this product here.

I try to follow the steps closely but I usually dispense the serum onto my palm, warm the serum up and gently press product onto my skin. After serum, I apply my regular moisturizer and finish off with the White Lucent Brightening Skincare Powder (reviewed here).

First Impressions I like the scent of it and how light it feels on my skin. It doesn’t leave an oily residue or film after application and product gets absorbed into the skin quite quickly, making application of the next product easier and faster.

After 3 days I noticed brighter skin. But several dark spots became more visible and that’s because rest of the skin starts to lighten/brighten, making the dark spots more obvious.

After 8 weeks Certain dark spots have started to fade. The affected area seems to have shrunk and I noticed a more even skin tone. As you can see from the set of pictures below – I hate this kind of pictures, they all look too scary.

The Overview

Whitening products are very new to me. I started using skincare when I was 18 but I have only started using whitening products last year and the Shiseido White Lucent Spot Targeting Serum was my first. Inspired by laser technology, the newly reformulated Shiseido White Lucent Spot Targeting Serum+ works faster, I saw results in 3 days. I am impressed by how quickly this serum reacted on me.

I tried analysing why – a few possibilities, could be I am still very new to whitening products so I could see a more drastic result or simply because this serum is fabulous.

As much as I love the speedy results, towards the end of my testing period, there were no further improvement. My skin probably got used to the formula and has stabilized – it’s a matter of maintaining the brightness and clarity of my complexion from now on.

I would recommend this product to

Shiseido is one of the pioneers in whitening products and this serum can be included into your regular skincare regime. So if you are thinking of adding one more serum to your usual routine, this may be helpful. If you have been using their Spot Targeting Serum, you are going to love this Serum+.

Thank you for reading.

  1. Hi, just clarifying, you said that the serum helps you to reduce the dark spots but not diminish it entirely right? Do you think that it will be able to diminish these spots entirely if used continuously over a longer period of time?

By the way, may I know how much the serum+ costs in S’pore?

    Thanks Joey!!! XOXO 🙂

    • Hi Kathy,
Yes, during my testing period, this serum helped reduce my dark spots but not completely erase them..
I can’t say for sure if this serum will work to diminish dark spots over a longer period of time because it really depends..
Depending on the spots, lifestyle, diet etc. I guess there are so many factors influencing the end results, one must try in order to find out!!
I am sorry, I have no solid answer to your question..
But maybe you want to set a particular testing period, say 3 months or when you have used up 2 bottles of serum?
Try to take a “before” and “after” photo as reference because photos are the best evident..

The Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum+ retails at S$159 for 30ml of product..
