At long last, Chanel Perfection Lumiére Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 arrived in Singapore a few weeks ago. Retailing at S$79 for 30ml of product, made in France.
I picked up my bottle of Perfection Lumiére end of last year when I visited Australia for a holiday and have been testing/enjoying it ever since. I do apologize for the late review but if you have been following me on Instagram and reading this blog for some time, you would have probably noticed several random entries mentioning how much I like this foundation.
This review has been sitting in my draft’s folder for some time and today, I finally got everything sorted – am ready to share my thoughts of this product.
Chanel described Perfection Lumiére as effortless to apply, with seamless blendability for a naturally flawless effect, this breakthrough foundation is the ideal all-day, everyday formula – suitable for all skin types in a diverse range of 20 shades.
Only 8 shades are available in Singapore.
The Chanel Perfection Lumiére Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 comes in a frosted glass bottle with pump – similar to Chanel Le Blanc Light Mastering Whitening Fluid Foundation (except the Le Blanc comes with a white cap). It is slimmer and wider compared to Chanel Mat Lumiére Long Lasting Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup.
I believe Pro Lumiére has been discontinued and replaced with Perfection Lumiére – although I would have thought Perfection Lumiére would replace Mat Lumiére.
Many of Chanel’s products are scented – some very lightly but Perfection Lumiére bears quite a distinctive floral scent, very similar to Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base. This scent may be a little too overwhelming to some but it didn’t bother me. As soon as my foundation sets and my makeup all done, I could hardly smell it for rest of the day.
Texture of the Perfection Lumiére is ultra-smooth and fine, the consistency is not runny nor watery. It blends beautifully and seamlessly onto the skin – very little blending required. It has a satin finish – almost like a second skin but slightly more matte.
I usually apply Perfection Lumiére with my fingers or a flat, rounded foundation brush like Chanel #6 Foundation Brush, Sephora IT Foundation Brush or realTechniques Essential Foundation Brush.
Comparing Perfection Lumiére with other Chanel foundations in my current stash;-
-
MAT LUMIÉRE Long Lasting Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup SPF 15 – 20 Clair
-
PERFECTION LUMIÉRE Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 – 20 Beige
-
VITALUMIÉRE AQUA Ultra-Light Skin Perfection Makeup SPF 15 – 40 Beige
-
LE BLANC Light Mastering Whitening Fluid Foundation SPF 25 PA+++ – 20 Beige
-
TEINT INNOCENCE Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup SPF 12 (discontinued) – 20 Clair
I bought Vitalumiére Aqua when I was really tan after my Bali trip thus the shade in 40 Beige.
MAT LUMIÉRE has the thickest and heaviest texture, medium coverage with a matte finish. PERFECTION LUMIÉRE is the easiest to blend, adjustable coverage (go sheer with 1 pump and a buffing brush) with a skin-like finish. VITALUMIÉRE AQUA is the most hydrating and comfortable to wear, most lightweight with a dewy finish.
LE BLANC has the highest SPF, brightening ingredients and medium coverage with a semi-matte finish. TEINT INNOCENCE is the most watery and offers light to medium coverage.
Upon application of the Perfection Lumiére, skin may look slightly matte but the foundation sets into a beautiful satin finish which is like nothing I have seen before. The wear is comfortable and lightweight despite the amount of coverage it offers – I am really impressed.
It has an interesting texture and finish – literally disappears into the skin.
Below are three sets of pictures taken throughout a 6 month period. During this 6 months, my skin’s condition has been like a roller coaster ride – I blame the stress, lack of sleep and terrible hormones. I didn’t apply any concealer for the sets of pictures below – this foundation helped even out my skin tone, reduced the redness I have, smoothen my skin’s surface and conceal certain spots. And this foundation also helped reduce the appearance of my pores.
The Overview
When I was in Hong Kong last December, I had Perfection Lumiére on every single day – I almost forgot to set my foundation because of the finish. In Hong Kong, this foundation scored an A+ as it lasted the entire day without touch-ups. At 11pm, I still looked fresh.
In Singapore’s humid weather and based on the sets of pictures above, I am giving this foundation a high B+ for its texture, consistency, coverage and finish. It some how lacked the longevity I was expecting – this tiny disappointment could be due to the absolutely flawless and stunning test results I got from Hong Kong.
Probably due to Singapore’s weather, Chanel launched the Perfection Lumiére together with Mat Lumiére Extrême Compact. Do you think this could be the perfect couple? I am very curious as I usually set this foundation with either Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder or Chanel Vitalumiére Éclat Comfort Radiance Compact Makeup.
So, assume I didn’t try this foundation in Hong Kong before – it’s fantastic for combination skin and looks extremely amazing. LOVES.
I would recommend this product to
For anyone who has combination skin looking for a foundation that has buildable coverage with a satin, skin-like finish. It is natural, lightweight and easy to apply.
The Perfection Lumiére also has a patented Perfect Light Control complex which helps correct skin imperfections and contains a blend of mineral-coated and transparent pigments to smooth and unify the complexion.
However, based on my emotional skin condition during the last 6 months, I feel that this foundation is not suitable for those with very dry, flaky skin. If you have dry skin, you must moisturize very well before spreading the foundation on. This foundation emphasizes dry skin conditions and it can be very unsightly.
Thank you for reading.
Thanks for the detailed review Joey. From the photos it seems like it does oxidise just a teeny weeny bit. I’ve always favored Chanel Foundations, but the recent Vitalumiere Aqua and the Vitalumiere Aqua Fresh & Hydrating Cream Compact didn’t impress me. Still on the fence on this. Any comparisons btw this and the Laura Mercier Silk Creme? xoxo
Hi Kris,
I totally forgot to mention, yes, it oxidises a little – advisable to pick a shade lighter!!
Pick up a sample to try, I think Chanel provides samples for shade 20, not too sure..
I have not tried LM Silk Creme before..
Can’t think of any foundations that has Perfection Lumiére’s unique texture and finish..
xx
Wow, you swear of Chanel! Many thanks for the review. Do you think the price of the skin care and makeup products in Hong Kong is cheaper than Singapore? Thanks!
Hi Luxy,
Hmm.. I am not sure as I hardly purchase anything from Chanel HK!!
But I have a feeling that it will be cheaper, if not, try DFS at the airport =)
xx
Thanks Joey! Do you have any Hong Kong’s Favourite brand to recommend? I wanted to stockup my skin care products and some make ups stuff which is not selling in Singapore. =) .
Hi Luxy,
Hmm.. I usually buy NARS and GA from Hong Kong, including Sulwhasoo skincare products but they are all coming to SG soon..
If you use false eyelashes, Shu Uemura is a lot cheaper then SG – in fact most of their products are cheaper!!
You might want to check out Jill Stuart and Max Factor too =)
Sofina is a skincare line my friend loves, you can find this brand at HK Seibu..
If you are shopping for clothes, I think Chocolate carries some interesting, casual tops!!
Check out my Hong Kong posts – might help >> https://joeychong.wordpress.com/category/the-voyage/asia/hong-kong/
Have fun xx
great review! I kind of want to try more Chanel now with all your reviews on their great foundations! 🙂 What is your skin type, if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi dear,
My skin is sensative and falls under the combination category – oily T-zone, dry cheeks and forehead..
same here exactly! Awesome. Thanks & good to know when I read your reviews 🙂
Now, it’s left with the climate isn’t it?
Singapore is hot and humid most of the year with thunderstorm and rain..
I guess Southern California is less humid even during summer?
I love the finish of my foundation a lot more when I travel to cooler countries!!
Actually, it’s gotten a LOT more humid. Probably not as humid as Singapore, but it used to be really dry heat when I was younger and now it’s more humid. Feels humid to me anyway! Lol you might like it better here, but it’s still so hot unless you visit in October – February then it’s colder!
Thank you for the tip, shall keep in mind to visit during those months!!
no problem 🙂
very nice and thorough review, joey 🙂
Thank you Jacq =)
we’re same hun.. oily Tzone =(
Aww..
Do you use any particular products to control the shine?
Hi Joey,
Many Thanks for the recommendation. I have combination skin too, like you oily T-zone, dry cheeks and forehead.
I used to have 2 sets of skin care products, hydrating products is for day care and whitening or brightening use at night.
I just apply a little bit sunblock on T-zone area, because the higher UV protection tend to has oily texture, and I prefer to use liquid sunblock which is has to shake it before apply to skin. Later only apply the Mac transparent oil block loose powder on T-zone area. I feel this loose powder quite good. Hope it helps 🙂
Hi Luxy,
Thank you for sharing!!
Remember to check out the new Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF 50+ PA+++, I have a feeling you will like it because I do and we seem to have similar skin type =)
Shu Uemura’s matte loose powder is quite good too IMO..
So excited for your HK trip..
Pack me in your bag please!!
xx
Joey,
Yup, I will go to Shiseido Counter, I have used their sunblock before, quick like the texture.
Ya, I like SHu Uemura’s matte loose powder, very fine and finished it last year, current is using the Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ loose powder, it is going to finish soon, wanted to try Estee Lauder or Chanel, do you have any recommendation? Sorry to ask so many question 🙂
Hooray, HongKong HongKong, 1st time travel there, me very exited too^^
Do you have anything wanted to buy from HongKong? Please email me if you have a wish list and I will try my best to look out for you.
Hi Luxy,
Don’t mention!!
Chanel’s loose powder is nice but not fantastic..
Try Lancôme Teint Miracle loose powder or Estée Lauder AeroMatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder – I heard that the US has discontinued this item, I am not sure if SG still carries them!!
Thank you for offering, I am good at the moment, don’t need anything =)
xx
Hi Joey^^ just found out your blog when I’m doing a research for chanel. Anyway, do you mind to give recommendation of the best loose powder? Thanks.
Hi Yowij,
Thank you for popping by and commenting!!
Depends on your needs for loose powder – I would recommend;-
For mattifying & more coverage – Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte
For translucency & fresh looking – Cle de Peau Translucent Loose Powder
For radiance & a little coverage – Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Fresh Powder Makeup
If you are looking for something that is great for generally setting foundation, Chanel, Lunasol and MUFE HD Powder are pretty awesome too =)
Hope I helped xx
Actually I need to cover my freckles^^ maybe I’ll try the diorskin or shuuemura on my trip to Singapore in couple of weeks. Thank you :))
Hi Yowiji,
May I know which foundation are you using?
Both Estée Lauder Double Wear and Shiseido Radiant Lifting foundations have good coverage and may help cover up some freckles..
If you use a slightly fuller coverage foundation, you may only need a translucent loose powder to set =)
Welcome to Singapore in advance!!
Happy weekend xx
Right! Translucent ones. Do you have any recommendation? Can’t thank you enuff ^^
I personally like Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ’s translucent loose powder, it’s very fine and delicate =) Givenchy’s is pretty good too and it comes in varies combination for different skin tones!!
Hi, I wanna buy my gf a small gift just for Christmas . She wants a foundation . Is foundation like a powder base? And how much is it for Chanel?
Hi Adrian,
That’s really sweet of you!!
However, may I suggest getting something else other than foundation?
Foundation is quite personal in terms of the texture, finish and shade – unless you know your girlfriend’s skin tone, skin type and preference in finish, it can be difficult to pick..
There are mainly 2 types of foundation at Chanel, liquid and powder – I believe prices varies from range to range, I guess you would have to visit the store for more details and assistance..
As an alternative, you can check out their range of lipsticks, Rouge Allure range has a very interesting packaging most girls love =)
And the Rouge Coco Shine range is amongst one of my favourite formulas..
Pair it with a nail colour and get the BA to gift wrap in a box!!
Hope I helped xx
How much is the Chanel Matt Lumiere Compact in Singapore?
Hi Mich,
Sorry, I am not sure..
Which one would you suggest for dry flaky skin in a super humid country/hot weather. Plus, that covers blemishes and minor imperfections and provides like medium to think coverage yet feeling light on the skin, stays on longer as well. Has a matte finish yet a soft glowy sheen to the skin. ?? 🙂 Do you think any of these might be able to meet these conditions?
By the way, I have a very bad skin, acne prone, with dark circles and blemishes, pigmentation around nose and mouth.
Thanks so much
Hi Melanie,
For dry flaky skin, I would suggest the VITALUMIÉRE AQUA because it’s the most hydrating amongst what I have tried and it feels lightweight on the skin.
However, the coverage is sheer to medium, may not help conceal blemishes and/or pigmentation (depending on how serious your condition is).
I think this video by Lisa Eldridge will help >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwngbzv0gbY
Hope I have answered some of your questions right =)
Happy Sunday xx
Hi Joey, do you encounter any clogged pores or breakout after using this foundation? I have tried it for some time and find that I start to have whiteheads/breakouts and it seems like this foundation is clogging my pores. I have combi/dry skin and no large pores, but I don’t know if this foundation is the cause of my skin breakout. 😦
Hello Jas,
I am so sorry to hear about your negative experiences with this foundation =(
I didn’t experience any breakouts or clogged pores with this foundation at all..
But one of my friend shared a similar experience as yours..
She has dry/sensitive skin..
Would you kindly give me the price of some Chanel foundation that you have mentioned:
MAT LUMIÉRE Long Lasting Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup SPF 15
PERFECTION LUMIÉRE Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10
VITALUMIÉRE AQUA Ultra-Light Skin Perfection Makeup SPF 15
LE BLANC Light Mastering Whitening Fluid Foundation SPF 25 PA+++
Hi dear,
MAT LUMIÉRE Long Lasting Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup SPF 15 – d/c
PERFECTION LUMIÉRE Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 – S$80
VITALUMIÉRE AQUA Ultra-Light Skin Perfection Makeup SPF 15 – S$78
LE BLANC Light Mastering Whitening Fluid Foundation SPF 25 PA+++ – S$80
Hope I helped =)
OMG. Thank you so much 🙂 Now my job is to choose the one for me ❤ Thanks again 🙂
Most welcome dear xx
Hi Joey,
do you consider Teint Innocence Clair 20 and Perfection Lumière Beige 20 to be similar in shade? I loooooved TI Clair 20, but seem to find PL 20 a bit more yellow-ish… In your photographs they seem to look alike and I wonder if it was just the lighting in the store…
Hi Rose,
They are both similar but PL is slightly (only slightly) more yellow..
My guess is because PL’s consistency is thicker thus the difference — they both looks natural on my skin tone..
Hope I helped =)
This is interesting! Thanks. I’m going to Singapore in less than 2 weeks and going to pick this up in the airport.
I hope you will like it =)
