In The Past Weeks Or So [Movies, Events + A Swatch & Random Things]

Hello everyone, how have you all been? Seems like a long time since I last spoke to you guys or shared an update. I have been doing fine, not great but alright – guess that life isn’t always smooth sailing but being positive is key.

And if you have noticed, this little space has been suffering from real updates, I have so many things to share but at the end of most days, I am totally exhausted and can’t concentrate on writing reviews. I hope I can pick things up again and bring you more reviews in the next couple of weeks.

One of the movies I have watched lately is Dark Shadows – a Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green.

Initially, I didn’t expect a lot from this movie but it was nice and I will watch it again. Eva Green is super gorgeous in this movie with hot red lips and porcelain skin – plus a body to die for. The story line is a little lengthy but still good.

The other movie – Snow White & The Huntsman which I have long anticipated for, is quite disappointing in my opinion.

Charlize Theron, one of my favourite actress of all time is no doubt still looking stunning despite being the Evil Queen. Chris Hemsworth – the mighty Thor is also looking pretty hot in this movie but I guess, Kristen Stewart is better off being a vampire in Twilight than Snow White.

Speaking of Twilight, have you watched the official trailer of Breaking Dawn Part 2? I can’t wait till November.

From my last update about a month ago, I mentioned I was testing out a few compact foundations – below is a picture of me wearing the Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle Crystal Brightening Creator, so far loving it. I have been rotating the compact foundations so expect reviews of them in the near future.

Apart from shopping for cosmetics, I have been splurging on clothes too. Somehow, this season’s floral motifs and prints totally caught me at hello. Totally gorgeous and I am particularly loving the clothes from Warehouse.

This season, there are also a couple of new fragrances launching. One of them is Valentina by Valentino (more information about this fragrant here). Below are some pictures taken during the event at Paragon Lobby. I had a great time making paper origami roses and had an express manicure with the signature flower nail art painted.

Have you checked out the fragrant? I am in love with its bottle – so pretty!!

End of last month, Clarins hosted an event at Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar (the former District 10 Bistro) to introduce their new line-up for their number 1 selling Shaping Facial Lift. Random but you must try the Truffle Fries – so delicious!!

In this new line-up, they will be launching a new formulation of Defining Eye Lift. From my understanding, it’s totally different from their previous/existing version. And the Shaping Facial Lift Wrap also gets a new look. The new Defining Eye Lift will launch in August and I will be putting up an introductory post soon.

Texture of the new Clarins Defining Eye Lift is super light – like some sort of water-based serum which gets absorbed relatively quickly. I have been using it for a couple of days, so far so good and I shall keep you all posted with a proper review at the end of my trial.

As we know, Clarins is very generous with their samples so when I purchase or stock up on Clarins products, the BA always provide samples. I have received several sample tubs of the Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Wrap and have tried it on several occasions.

I usually apply all over my face but during this event, I learnt that it’s sufficient to apply only on the lower portion of my face. And it’s best to keep this mask in the refrigerator. More about this mask and its application coming soon, when I review it – stay tuned to find out if you are interested.

Beginning of the month, on a rainy Saturday morning, I attended the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Bloggers’ Event‏ at Socialhaus.

Kiehl’s is re-introducing their Dream Team, Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye – two very powerful products formulated with a complex blend of botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose and essential oils including therapeutic Lavender, which are rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 to biologically replicate skin’s natural lipids and dramatically restore skin overnight.

About two weeks before this event, I purchased the Midnight Recovery Eye which I only use at night – love that it comes in a tube, so convenient.

I always enjoy Kiehl’s events (only been to two but still) – the people are always fun and loving, friendly and quirky not to mention the cute Kiehl’s boys.

Love the over-sized props of the Dream Team Duo. During the event, we got to make our own tea bags, decorate our own pillows and a lovely back and hand massage by the professionals using the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – how posh is that?

Many thanks to Kiehl’s for the lovely photos below.

Two weeks ago, Burberry held a mini workshop at TANGS Orchard.

During this event, the awesome BA, Mindy – demonstrated the signature Burberry girl look on the model. As we know, Burberry emphasizes on being simple, natural and effortless. Mindy started by prepping the model’s face with their star product – the Fresh Glow followed by a thin layer of foundation.

Before setting the foundation with powder, Mindy applied a decent dose of Lip Mist onto the model’s cheeks and blend. This will create a natural flush of colour which appears to be from the skin within.

Mindy also applied Sheer Concealer under the model’s eyes to brighten up the area. Using the press and roll method, Mindy set the model’s face with a thin layer of Sheer Powder using a brush. To finish the look, Mindy used her fingers to apply a wash of eyeshadow and coated the model’s lashes with mascara.

The results?

Simple, natural, quick and easy to achieve. The model looked fresh, especially after Mindy dusted some Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact (reviewed here) on her forehead, cheeks, down the nose and chin.

Another event that took place just last week is the launch of Hugo Boss Sport at Lucky 13. Fronted by Jensen Button, British Formula 1 Champion, we got to love the F1 racing simulators available on site – oh my, I had a go at it and was totally making a fool of myself, banging onto sides of the roads and going the opposite direction.

But it was so fun, how cool would it be to have one at home?

During the event, we had the chance to create our own scent. In front of me, I had a flask, a dropper and test tubes filled with essential oils. At the end of my little experiment, my bespoke scent includes a decent dose of Pink Pepper, Lavender and Geranium.

Other than attending product events, a day to really remember in June is my friend’s wedding. It was indeed a memorable one – from being a “sister” during gate crashing in the morning to doing the bride’s makeup for her ROM and being a guest for the dinner.

A little swatch comparing NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Habanera and Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in 87 Riviére. A few readers have asked if these two are similar – well, I guess pictures speak a thousand words and it’s clearer than my lousy descriptions.

So, here you go. The green side of Habanera bears a tiny blue when swatched side-by-side to Riviére. Riviére is more fresh and minty. Nonetheless, both are equally gorgeous.

Lastly, I would like to finish this post with a few links.

Till the next one, thank you for reading.
