At night, the skin gets a breather to repair the damages, as there are few environmental aggressors to detract it from its healing process. The formulations of Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye enhance the natural repair and regeneration process at night, when your skin is at its maximum ability to absorb nourishing ingredients.
This dream team is formulated with a complex blend of botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose and essential oils including therapeutic Lavender, which are rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 to biologically replicate skin’s natural lipids and dramatically restore skin overnight.

THE ART OF SLEEPING
Ask anyone what does he or she need the most on a daily basis and the answer is likely – Sleep. Optimize scarce sleeping time and pick up these 5 tips to quality restorative sleep – Beauty Sleep.
Set a regular bedtime
Go to bed at the same time every night. Choose a time when you normally feel tired, so that you do not toss and turn. If you want to change your bedtime, help your body adjust by making the change in small increments, such as 15 minutes earlier or later each day.
No booze before snooze
Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does not improve sleep. A glass of wine might help you drift off initially, but alcohol can disrupt sleep patterns, in the later part of the night.
Sip some Chamomile tea to calm your senses
This non-caffeinated tea contains soothing properties that may reduce anxiety and promote sleep, with a light floral aroma. Drink 30-45 minutes prior to bedtime.
Fight after-dinner drowsiness
Get off the couch and do something mildly stimulating to avoid dozing off, such as washing the dishes, or getting clothes ready for the next day. If you succumb to the drowsiness, you may wake up later in the night and have trouble getting back to sleep.
Befriend the Kiehl’s Dream Team
Use the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye duo and allow natural, calming lavender scent to drift you into lala-land. Now you can sleep tight with skin repaired overnight and wake up to fresher, younger-looking skin by morning.
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT – Evening Primrose Oil
A flowering plant originally native to North America. It blooms every other year and its large, fragrant yellow flowers open at duck and remain open throughout the night. It contains Omega 3, 6 and 9 (essential fatty acids), which the body cannot produce on its own, helping to replenish and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier.
Often consumed as a health supplement, the inherent essential fatty acids also help regulate hormones and improve nerve function thus aiding problems ranging from pre-menstrual symptoms to migraine headaches. Evening primrose oil is recommended by practitioners of natural medicine for a myriad of ailments, such as rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, menopause and breast cysts.
MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE
sleep tight, restore skin overnight
This formulation boosts the repair and regeneration of skin when it is naturally programmed to best absorb active ingredients, typically between midnight to 4 a.m. There are two main factors that contribute to this highly receptive period:
- During the night, the skin’s metabolism of nutrition is at a maximum rate due to the circadian rhythm of the body. Sometimes called the “Human Clock,” a circadian rhythm is roughly a 24-hour cycle in the biochemical, physiological or behavioral processes of living things. Research done on the skin shows that it also has specific rhythms, which differ during the day and the night. During the day, the skin is focusing on protection – the sebum secretion rate increases while the skin has a low metabolism. At night skin is repairing itself from daily damage and activity reaches its maximum – the blood flow increases, the skin absorption of actives rate and cell turnover is at its peak.
- While we sleep, the skin is most amenable to rejuvenation and recovery as there are few environmental stressors that detract from its healing process.
After four weeks, participants in a consumer test noticed significant results including:
- Restores skin’s natural appearance by morning – 85%
- Improves the appearance of facial contours by morning – 85%
- Nurtures and replenishes skin – 85%
- Skin feels more hydrated – 85%
- Skin feels softer – 85%
- Skin appears less tired and well rested – 80%
- Apply two-three drops of Midnight Recovery Concentrate onto the top of a clean hand.
- Tap fingertips into oil lightly.
- Press fingertips gently on the cheeks, forehead and chin to evenly distribute – pat, do not rub.
MIDNIGHT RECOVERY EYE
one night, two drops, younger looking eyes by morning
Following the successful introduction of Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the 99.8% naturally derived botanical elixir that today is a leading customer favorite due to its ability to restore skin overnight, Kiehl’s Since 1851 launches its ideal companion: Midnight Recovery Eye to help achieve fresher, younger looking eyes by morning by diminishing puffiness and fine lines and wrinkles.
Kiehl’s chemists formulated Midnight Recovery Eye – paraben-free, fragrance-free, and mineral oil-free – with the active ingredient Butcher’s Broom, a root extract, known to increase microcirculation, which when combined with other tried and true powerhouse oils helps to reduce puffiness and strengthen the delicate eye area overnight.
Other active essential and botanical oils in the Midnight Recovery Eye formula, Squalane, Evening Primrose and Lavender, help to strengthen the thin skin under the eyes, which is only 1/3 as thick as other facial skin. This under-eye area has the fewest sebaceous glands on the face, and is therefore highly susceptible to dehydration, resulting in a weak barrier, a factor in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The unique blend of oils – made up of Fatty acids (Omega 3, 6 and 9) – has a restructuring benefit which also helps to reinforce the protective barrier and slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Due to the unique vulnerability of the under-eye area, puffiness affects all age groups, and is one of the leading skin concerns of women. This issue, in addition to fine lines and wrinkles, appears in the eye area first, as early as age 30. Prevention is valuable, and according to leading dermatologists, proper skincare at night is highly effective.
Eye treatments high in anti-inflammatory properties and replenishing lipids are essential to maintain healthy and younger looking under-eye skin.
Much of the skin’s energy during the day is used to protect itself, with less energy to spare on repair. Therefore, the primary activity of the skin during the night, when one is sleeping and not exposed to as many damaging free radicals, is to repair itself, especially in the fragile eye area, which is prone to puffiness and early signs of wrinkles.

Thank you for reading.
i tried the midnight recovery concentrate from the sample in june’s bellabox. My skin feels really smooth n plump when i wake up in the morning. but i find that it is quite oily though…not sure if it cos i used too much?
You may have used too much, a drop or two is enough..
If you still find it oily, try to mix in with your toner =)
Hope this helps!!
