This Summer, Dior released a fast track collection entitled The Summer Mix. This collection includes four lip glosses and nail polishes. All the colours are fun, colourful and vibrant Summer tones.
Retails for S$37, each bottle contains 10ml of product, made in France. These nail polishes features translucent and glossy finished much like Aloha and Paradise from their Electric Tropics Collection last Summer. It also features easy-to-spread formula with a brilliant sheen of semi-translucent colour.
Despite my recent disappointment in their Violets Hypnotiques Nail Collection, Calypso is impressive and brought back my confidence in Dior polishes.
A little confession, I actually walked right past them at the airport last month, assuming they will be sheer with visible nail line. I also convinced myself that I don’t need them and will not like them. All of that pretty much changed when I swatched Calypso.
Dior describes Calypso as a sunset red and I would describe it as a hot, vibrant sheer red with an orange undertone.
Swatches above taken indoor with natural day light and swatches below taken out the window with natural day light. Swatched with Rescue Beauty Lounge Base Coat, 2 coats of nail polish and Ettusais Gel Top Coat.
The nail polish itself has a glossy and jelly-like finish but I have decided to give it more oomph by adding a layer of Ettusais Gel Top Coat.
Although this range of nail colours may sound sheer or give the idea of being sheer – they are not. They are actually quite opaque in a way and Dior has described them perfectly – they are indeed semi-translucent with a brilliant sheen.
Texture of Calypso is less creamy and less thick as compared to some other Dior polishes, it’s smooth and it really spreads on easily. The consistency makes application a breeze, it doesn’t streak and the colour applies beautifully and evenly. Basically, I didn’t have to pay extra attention or use any techniques to apply the colour.
Calypso is definitely more opaque compared to Paradise and has a more translucent feel as compared to Aloha. The texture and finish reminded me a little of Lunasol Gel Red but I have nothing similar in terms of texture and finish to compare with.
If you have decided to skip this range of nail polishes, you may want to reconsider taking a second look. I have not checked out the other 3 shades but I will be pretty soon. Would love to try on Lagoon and Acapulco.
Thank you for reading and hope you like the swatches.
Oh please show us more Dior nail polishes — I appreciate your thoughts on them.
