My 5 All Time Favourites For July 2012

Hello everyone, another month of favourites again and this month, my favourites are all over the place. From fragrant, eye colours, face powder to mask. I am so excited and can’t wait to share them with you.

Firstly, I have the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact on the list. Previously reviewed here, this has been my go-to highlighter recently and am loving the soft-focus effect it has on my skin. Not only does it smell great, it’s very versatile.

I find myself using a smaller brush to pick up the lighter shades for highlight (high points of my cheek bones) and the deeper shades for contouring (hollows of my cheeks). Hakuhodo G5521 Highlight Brush is perfect for this.

NARS Eyeshadow in Lhasa has also been one of my go-to eyeshadow colours this month. Featured in My Beauty Picks For Spring 2012 here, this mauve-grey hue goes over the entire lid evenly and smoothly with a soft shimmer finish. Depending on angle and lighting, this shade reflects light differently, adds a rather complex dimension on the lids.

I enjoy wearing it alone with a little black eyeliner smudged along the lash line.

I remember trying this mask many years ago and from what I remember, the consistency is a little more dense and thick? Anyway, I picked up a tub of Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque again a few months ago; in support of the Autism Association (Singapore) whereby 100% of the nett proceeds from the sale of this mask goes into the renovation works in Eden Childen’s Centre (Clementi and Simei).

I am loving this mask all over again; can’t really remember my thoughts from a few years back tho.

It has an earthy minerals smell to it but nothing too overwhelming nor unbearable. Spreads on easily; I was told that some people may experience a slight tingling sensation but I didn’t. When the mask is in the process of drying, my skin’s surface feels tighter; and I don’t know why, I always avoid talking and smiling when using this mask.

When the mask dries, I use a pair of damp facial sponges and remove. Gently press damp sponge onto skin to loosen mask – depending on how thick your application is, some times, it may take longer. Wipe entire face with lukewarm water and rinse thoroughly with cool water to close up pores.

I like how clean my face is after using this mask and it doesn’t feel drying. I use it weekly, over the weekends. If my skin feels extremely congested, I will use it twice.

Video below shows you how to apply the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque, hope it helps.

Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill in #20 Obsidian Black is gorgeous. I seldom buy black eyeshadows – in fact, I can’t remember the last time I bought anything black. This shade is not entirely black but deep navy-teal which is really pretty.

I enjoy using it to smudge my eyeliner along my lash line during most days. When it comes to the night, I like to use it as an overall lid colour for a pair of smoky eyes.

Lastly, my latest indulgence in fragrant – the Penhaligon’s Artemisia. Soft floral scent with a powdery finish.

A little about Penhaligon’s (extracted from their website) for those who are new. Their fine fragrances are made in England using the finest rare ingredients; from hand-squeezed bergamot, to jasmine at twice the price of gold. Their signature Penhaligon’s fragrance bottle is to William Penhaligon’s original design: clear glass with a distinctive ribbon-wrapped top.

Created in 2002, Artemisia is both floral and fruity with a beautifully sensual powdery dry down. Caramel soft, sweet, powdery and silky. A tumble of green apples and nectarines washed with jasmine tea and sprinkled with a luxurious medley of violet, cyclamen and lily petals. All this softly unfolds with great subtlety surrounded with layers of honeyed vanilla, warm spices, a touch of amber and a hint of musk. Haunting and addictive.

  • Top Notes
    Nectarine and Green Foliage
  • Heart Notes
Green Apple, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine Tea, Violet and Vanilla
  • Base Notes
Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Musk, Amber and Vanilla

Penhaligon’s Artemisia is an intimate scent, it doesn’t leave a trail – only myself and those who are close to me can smell it. And trust me, it smells dearly – I even wear it to bed on several occasions, I am obsessed with this scent and wonder why didn’t I pick it up any sooner.

I am very pleased with my current fragrance collection but I am still looking forward to picking up a bottle of Maison Francis Kurkdjian APOM pour femme.

What are your favourites this month?

Thank you for looking.

  1. Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque is one of my favorite skincare items too! i’ve been really enjoying dollywink’s liquid liner and the body shop’s vitamin e serum this month =)

  2. A wonderful soft fragrance is Sakura Cherry Blossom by Jo Malone. It was only available one Spring so I collected 4 bottles of it. Do you know it?

  3. hi Joey, thanks for sharing. Love reading it. May I know, where can i purchase Penhaligon’s Artemisia in SG?

    • Hi Denise,
      Difficult question..
      Hmm..
I like both and both are slightly different, Kiehl’s one leaves my skin slightly cleaner but I love the cooling sensation of Lush’s..
      Lush’s finishes faster tho..
