My 5 All Time Favourites For August 2012

Hello everyone, another month of favourites have arrived. The entire month of August is overwhelmed with upcoming Fall makeup collections and launch parties – and I have a lot to catch up. Meanwhile, let me share my 5 (cheated a little this month but you will find out why) must-haves this month.

The Clarins White Plus | HP Whitening Velvet Emulsion (more information here) has been accompanying me for approximately 6 months. I have been using it on and off during these months and each time I use this emulsion, I fall in love with it again.

It comes in 2 versions, one with SPF and one without – I prefer the one without because I mainly use it at night. Occasionally, I finish my nightly routine with an emulsion instead of a moisturizer but if my skin is particularly dry, I will apply the night cream, also from Clarins White Plus | HP range.

I love the smell of Clarins products and the night cream smells divine. This emulsion comes in a glass bottle with pump and the pump comes with a lock – the packaging is slightly heavy but I love how posh and streamline it looks. I use 1 full pump for my face and neck or half a pump if I pair it with a night cream. The consistency is like thicken water, very runny and gets absorbed into the skin quite quickly.

This emulsion leaves my skin feeling fresh, hydrated and supple the next day. It’s lightweight and I like the velvety finish.

I don’t know about you but I take skincare breaks once in a while – say, once or twice a month. During this break which usually lasts 2 days (weekends), I like to treat my skin with facial oils or sleeping masks.

One of my favourite is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. After cleansing and toning my skin, I will use 3 drops of MRC, warm product with both palms and pat onto my face. The next morning, my skin will feel rejuvenated. Stay tune for my nightly skincare routine post – I have included details of both mentioned products and more.

Speaking of cheating this month – I have included 6 items instead of just 5 but the 2 following products work hand in hand with each other, it wouldn’t make sense to split them. I call them my lip saver – the ultimate duo.

I have always suffered from dry lips and my upper lips is thinner than my lower lips. I love wearing bold lip colours and sometimes, bold lip colours exaggerate this unbalance flaw. I have considered fillers but I dare not so trying lip plumping products is the way to go (for me, for now).

There are many lip plumping products on the market but when I came across Chanel Ultra Correction Lift Plumping Anti-Wrinkle-Lips & Contour (phew, such a long name) – I couldn’t resist, mainly because it contains not only ingredients that plumps up but also anti-wrinkle properties for the lips and its surroundings.

It’s like skincare for my lips and that’s exactly how it feels every time I apply it. The leaflet found inside the box includes massaging steps – quite interesting.

However, after applying it, it doesn’t help hydrate my lips so that’s where Chanel Hydramax + Active Nutrition Lip Care comes in. After applying Correction Lift, I apply a generous layer of Hydramax to complete my entire nightly ritual. I love how smooth my lips feel the next morning.

I received Lancôme L’Absolu Mat in 300 a few weeks ago and I have been loving it ever since. I wore it out on several occasions for dinner with my friends and everyone commented on how pretty the colour is, the finish and its lasting power.

Many thanks to Sophia for the picture above. This shade suits a wide range of skin tones – very graceful.

This formula has a velvety satin finish and it lasts through a meal – how cool is that? I don’t even have to touch up throughout the day. The colour stayed bright and vibrant, the texture is soft and creamy – and the applicator makes application so easy. No lip brushes nor lip pencils required.

This Fall is all about bold lips – if you are looking for something a little different, you got to try this shade of raspberry pink. I promise, you will love it and I wish Lancôme will add more shades to the range.

Lastly, the Giorgio Armani Écailles Face & Cheeks Duo Palette – a lovely combination for natural looking sculpted cheeks with a radiant glow. The blush in this duo has good colour payoff and is buildable. The highlighter is sheer but provides a beautiful soft sheen that accentuates features.

Texture of both blush and highlighter are finely milled, smooth to touch and easy to blend.

I hope you like my installment of favourites this month and that my summary of thoughts have helped. What are your favourites this month? I would love to know as new Fall collections are filling in – what are your picks?

Thank you for reading.

  1. Joey, the Lancome mat looks great on yourself and Sophia. I want to go see it for myself. How would you compare it with the MUFE Aqua Rouge? You are totally tempting me with the GA face palette.

    • Hi Jacqueline,
      I love the Lancôme 300 – it’s gorgeous!!
Think is, the Lancôme one is long-lasting yet easy to remove – it leaves a stain but a decent makeup remover takes it off..
As for the MUFE Aqua Rouge, I think it’s too difficult to remove for my liking..
      Each has it’s own benefits..
Texture and finish of Lancôme 300 is unique tho, have you checked them out yet?

  2. Thank you for the tip on the Chanel lip products. I’m bringing my mother to Nordstrom’s today and I will purchase both. You gave me terrific advice with the Ecrinal nail products and the glass file. My nails have never been so beautiful. My recent favorite product is a lip stain by YSL. I usually don’t like stains but this formulation is wonderful. The color stays on the lips but is somewhat creamy and definitely keeps the lips moist but not super shiny lip some glosses. It’s as if they mixed together a stain, a lipstick and a gloss and came out with the perfect combination. I love the taste too and the color #14 is a gorgeous fuschia rosey color that is not garish. It’s like the ultra perfect rosey color that a newborn would have in a perfect world!

    • Hi Mimi,
      You are most welcome =)
YSL lip stains!! I am testing them, so far I am loving them too!!
      I don’t have #14 but I am liking #11..
Let me know your thoughts about the Chanel lip duo if you got them!!

  3. Hi Joey, I love Clarins White Plus HP Whitening Velvet Emulsion 🙂
I am using this every evening, however, even though it is quite pricey, it takes very long to finish. My skin always looks so dewy the next day in the morning. Glad that you love it too. And yes, I also prefer the one with no SPF.

    • Hi Rosnauli,
I am so happy you are loving the emulsion too =)
Ya, agree – this emulsion is slightly more expensive than many others and it really takes a long time to finish..
      TGIF

    • Hi Fiona,
Glad to know you do the same too =)
I thought I was the only one..
      LOL..
Yes, I think it’s possible and it’s good to take a break from both skincare and makeup once in a while!!
      xx
