Hello everyone, Mak and I are back from our mini-moon. Before I continue with our series of wedding posts (we have finally received all photographs from our photographer), I have put together a series of posts to share our adventure, all the way from Singapore to Maldives.
This trip to Maldives has been one of the most amazing journey for us. Maldives is indeed one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Despite booking our trip merely 2 weeks before departure, we managed to buy and pack up all the things we need for our summer vacation.
I wasn’t sure if I am at all prepared – we have all seen breathtaking pictures of Maldives but seeing is believing and until we touch down, it’s hard to judge. We have done sufficient research online before finalizing on our flight and resort – I must say, everything exceeded our expectations.
That morning, we arrived at the airport earlier than usual – I guess we were too excited eh? We spent about 45 minutes at SilverKris Lounge for breakfast, shopped a little at DFS and took a slow walk down to the gate.
The Singapore Airlines crew serving on board our flight to Malé were exceptionally friendly, perhaps they are also on a holiday mood too?
Our meal on board includes;-
- Satay with onion, cucumber and spicy peanut sauce
- Salad of crabmeat with mango salsa
- Panfried red snapper with sweet and sour dressing, vegetable “ratatouille” and steamed potatoes
- Seared tournedos of beef with thyme jus, roasted vegetables and seared asparagus
- Citrus creme brulee served with strawberry compote
- Selection of Camembert, sundried tomato cream cheese and Monterey cheeses served with garnishes
The selection of food on board Singapore Airlines Business Class hardly disappoints – if all things fail, there is always cheese platter I absolutely enjoy having and cup noodles.
As our flight was approaching Malé, I have fallen in love with the tens and hundreds of islands we flew past.
Hello Maldives, we finally meet.
Once we have cleared the custom and collected our bags, we “ran” to airport counter #28 to meet the airport representative from W Maldives. From there, we were guided to the Seaplane Terminal.
W Maldives is situated on Fesdu Island in the middle of North Ari Atoll – west of Malé. Hopping onto a seaplane which operates during daylight hours is the quickest way to reach the resort. It is approximately 25 minutes from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (MLE).
Do note that there is a maximum baggage allowance of 25kg per person and excess baggage is chargeable at USD5 per kg.
After weighing our bags at the Seaplane Terminal, we were given a Boarding Card – from there, we were guided to the W Lounge to wait for our seaplane.
No doubt, the W Lounge is nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating, light refreshments such as fruits, cakes, muffins, sandwiches, coffee, tea and sodas are available to “perk you up”. Complimentary wifi is also available.
We waited for approximately an hour for the next seaplane. One hour seems so long at the lounge but the fact is – before we knew it, we are already on our way. Spent some time snapping pictures (the water is already so beautiful here), freshen up and had a cup of coffee.
A hotel representative helped us proceed with our check in and directed us to the seaplane just before take off.
Everything is very well taken care of – thank you.
On board the seaplane to paradise.
Paradise, oh yes but seaplane? Hmmm, I think the seaplane was the most uncomfortable part of our entire journey – it’s rather small, hot and the engine is loud and noisy. But all that discomfort got distracted by the idyllic scenery down below.
This is the first time I have ever sat on a seaplane – I thought it’s going to be a rough ride but surprisingly, the take off and landing are pretty smooth. I loved the ride (kind of) but please try to grab a front seat to avoid too much sweating.
Arriving at W Maldives was amazing – we were greeted by the W Talents and were served ice tea (there are plenty of options like champagne if you wish for one). Nothing beats having ice tea on such a hot and sunny day at paradise.
Off we go on a buggy ride tour around the resort.
Thank you for looking.
wow, that shot from the seaplane of the atoll – breathtaking!!
Thank you hun =)
Wow, now I know where I’m going to spend my next holidays *___*
And also lovely photos!
Hello Lia,
Thank you for your kind compliments!!
I love the photos on your blog too, how’s Taiwan so far?
Have a great week ahead xx
That shot of the inside of the seaplane trigger claustrophobia right here in my living room! Unbelievably gorgeous scenery outside the plane though!
Hello Mimi,
How have you been? Haven’t spoken to you in a while!!
Yes, tell me about it – it’s so small and cramped..
