Femme Boulevard: Graphic Liner Editorial Look

Femme Boulevard_Graphic Liner Editorial Look (1)

For the first time in a long time, I am creating a look!! I am so excited, the last look I did was in September 2013 and my last proper post was also around that time. I will save all the “explanations” for another time because I can’t wait to share this look with all of you. I hope this look excites you as much too.

Femme Boulevard‘s theme this month is based around something graphical and editorial. I am not sure if mine is editorial enough because it’s still somewhat wearable for parties I guess but it’s definitely a lot louder than what I normally have. This look is also loosely based on Lisa Eldridge’s video tutorial here. Her tutorials are always so inspiring.

Like you, I can’t wait to see what rest of the team have done for this month’s graphical themed look, check them out >> Teri, Lilit and Kate — I owe you a belated “welcome” note, pleasure to have you on board; the looks you have created are so inspiring and I always enjoy watching how you mix and match colours.

And big congrats to Lily!! I may be the last to know but if you don’t already know, hop over to her blog to find out why she’s missing in this month’s collaboration.

A lot of work and time spent on creating the ideal complexion I want for this look. I want my skin to glow flawlessly without looking greasy and too made up. I want my skin to look fresh and natural.

I started off by prepping my skin with Bobbi Brown Illuminating Face Base SPF 25 PA++, amazing primer for adding a touch of radiance (I feel it works best under powder foundation). Followed by layering Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation over to even out my skin tone. This foundation does not provide much coverage at all but it allows the skin to show through naturally with a beautiful glow.

In order to create an even and flawless canvas for this look, I had to conceal spots, scars and redness around my nose. Set foundation with a light dust of powder, here I am using Koh Gen Do Triple Lighting Foundation.

Eyes
It has never been easy for me to do winged liner looks because my eyes are uneven but this, it has nothing to do with whether my eyes are uneven or not — it requires some patience, corrections and that’s it. Don’t worry, Q-tips and Bioderma is around to help sharpen and clean up the mess.

  • I prepped my lids with a primer (I don’t use a primer all the time but considering this look is pretty strong, I went ahead to apply some).
  • Lightly dust a small amount of Foxy over entire lids to even up the colour.
  • Apply Venus under brow bones and inner corners of the eyes towards nose bridge.
  • Tight line upper lash line and lower lash line with a creamy black eyeliner (I don’t usually line my entire lower lash line but I wanted this look to be more dramatic so I tried).
  • Use gel eyeliner to map out the shape you want — instead of going for a winged look, I went for somewhat a “doe” shaped look (there are many, many shapes to choose from).
  • Apply lots of mascara.
  • Totally optional, apply false eyelashes.
  • I kept my brows simple and neat, lighter than my usual so it’s not too overpowering (I used Naked 2 and Faint).

Cheeks
Contoured with NARS Contour Blush in Olympia and dusted a matte pink blush on the sides of my face to create a more sculpted look.

Lips
My lips are so terribly dry recently so I had to opt for something glossy. I am deeply in love with two lip products lately, Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm and Sephora Glossy Lip Pencil in 05 Glossy Pale Pink.

Thank you for looking.

I love the bold simplicity of this eye, especially paired with that so-difficult-to-achieve perfected neutral/natural canvas.
