It feels wonderful when all W Talents wear a smile on their faces and greets whenever they see you. Meet Marco in the picture above. Whenever a buggy passes by, they slow down and stop to greet – is it because we are on a vacation and our mood is exceptionally good?
Whichever, the level of friendliness from all the people working at W Maldives made us feel warm and at home – thank you.
In this post, I wish to show you around the resort and a few of our favourite spots.
WELCOME JETTY
Or goodbye jetty. You arrive and leave the resort via this jetty.
This part of the island is usually quite in the evening, find yourself a nice spot, enjoy the breeze and watch the sun set right in front of your eyes. A very peaceful area but this is a no snorkeling zone because it’s a channel for speedboats and seaplanes.
From the Welcome Jetty, you can literally look into someone else’s Ocean Oasis Retreat – namely #245 and #246. If possible, try to avoid those two retreats – for privacy reasons as well as noise pollution from the seaplanes.
LIVING ROOM
Similar to a hotel lobby so to speak. At the Living Room, you can sort out Whatever/Whenever® – be it checking out, booking for activities, renting a DVD or anything really. The Whatever/Whenever® Team can answer whatever questions you have.
The team were really helpful during our stay.
Another fact that impresses me during our stay with W Maldives is – their W Talents are from all over the world and some are multilingual. They speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and probably more.
Very helpful for guests, most of the locals speak fluent English so communicating wasn’t a problem for us at all.
WAVE
Upon arrival, we had to pick up our snorkeling kit (mask, fins and goggles) from Wave situated on the beach. At Wave, you can find a range of complimentary activities such as Molokini “transparent glass” canoes, Hobie pedal kayaks, Windsurf boards & sails and Kite rig.
There are also many other activities you can find at Wave (fees apply) and one of them is SeaBob – the over and under water rocket, straight from James Bond’s “Die Another Day”.
I was very much looking forward to the see-through canoe but no luck, wind direction and speed didn’t allow that during our short stay. Parasailing is a must-try if you have time – we didn’t but many others did.
Well, I guess there are enough reasons to return to this island huh?
WORDS/ENERGY
We spent most of our late mornings, after breakfast at WORDS/ENERGY playing tic-tac-toe and table tennis where 1/4 of the table is submerged in the pool – a very unique idea.
We also spent some time playing pool – I suck.
There are lots of games available at WORDS/ENERGY – all of which are very well maintained. For this particular location on the island, it’s good to visit in the mornings and late evenings because it gets pretty hot during the afternoon.
But again, we are on an island – who cares about sweating?
BEACH
One of the spots we can never get enough of – the soft white sand and crystal clear water.
Colour of the water changes depending on time of the day. No matter when, the water is still crystal clear – spot the school of fishes loitering so close to shore. It’s such an amazing sight I will never forget.
Also shown in the picture above, those are the Coral Terrace – there are a total of 8 situated on varies spots around the island. Private dinners can be arranged – it is really romantic, the pathway will be lit. Let any W Talents know, pick your spot and they will do the rest.
This is how clear the water is – unbelievable, we are so in love.
Taking an afternoon scroll along the beach is stress free, care free and definitely time free. But remember to load up on your sunscreen!
WET®
After absorbing heat from the sun, chilling out at WET® seems to be the perfect choice. WET® serves gourmet pizza, salad, light meals and delicious drinks – and features a table on the sun deck by the pool.
SWEET SPOT
One of the most visited spot on the island – there are 6 Sweet Spots and all of them are filled with ice cream, chilled water, coke, sprite, milo and coffee. You can also find clean towels and ice there. Best of all, everything is complimentary.
Hope you are enjoying my Maldives travel posts so far. Looking back at them makes me miss this place so much. My next post will be all about water sports – stay close!
