I always look forward to Bobbi Brown’s holiday collections every year – she comes up with gorgeous and handy palettes for travels and touching up on-the-go. This year, I picked up two items – not entirely sure if they are available in Singapore yet, I picked them up at the KL airport.
In this post, I shall share my first impressions of them together with some swatches.
24 Karat Shimmer Brick Compact retails at RM170 ≃ S$68 for 10.3g of product, made in Italy.
Considered my first proper shimmer brick I guess because the first I got is the Party Shimmer Brick which is slightly different. This limited edition shimmer brick features five bars of pearlescent shimmer highlight for the skin to create a lit-from-within glow. Each bar also doubles up as an eyeshadow.
All swatches taken under natural sun light without flash – on dry arm.
I am in love with the silky smooth texture of this shimmer brick. All five shades have excellent colour payoff ranging from a shimmery/frosty white gold to warm pink. Together (depending on which colour you pick up more), I have a subtle yet luminous warm beige with gold sheen for highlight.
I think it’s a very wearable yet understated tone and will suit many skin tones. A sheer blend of this is suitable for day, add a touch more for going out at night.
Powder Pearl Eye Trio retails at RM180 ≃ S$72 for 3 x 3.3g of product, made in USA.
Some sparkly, pearly, shimmery eye powder for Christmas this year? Yes, I am in for all. This trio claims to be easy to apply and blend, each shadow boasts 95% pure pearl pigments and rich sparkle to create a subtle wash of shimmer or a burst of ultra-intense color (depending on how you put it on). It’s crease-free wear and flake-proof too.
They reminded me exactly of the bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolour – the packaging is exactly the same and they are both made in USA. The spring mechanism and sponge applicator are exactly the same too – makes me wonder if both companies have used the same manufacturer.
But even so, it doesn’t matter at all – to me. Because what’s inside, is absolutely amazing.
The Powder Pearl Eye Trio comes in:
- Pink Pearl – a shimmery golden peach
- Moonlight – a shimmery purple pink
- Black Pearl – a warm grey with gold specks
Swatches above taken in order of shades mentioned, under natural sun light, without flash – on dry arm.
They are incredibly pigmented and smooth, just like pigments but in a tube with an applicator. Like the bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolour, the packaging of these Bobbi Brown eye powders is the only problem – the applicator picks up too much product which will indeed create a little mess.
And because of that, I find it difficult to apply directly onto my lids – prone to fall outs and it’s just too messy.
I prefer dabbing the sponge applicator onto a piece of tissue or a mixing palette to remove access product – from there, you can either use the sponge applicator or your own brush to apply. Of the three shades, Black Pearl is the most powdery, wearing a creamy eyeshadow primer may help this colour to adhere better.
Hope this post helped. What are your picks from this collection?
Thank you for looking.
Beautiful! Love the eye trio especially, not the easiest application though.
Hi dear,
Exactly, I wish they have made it simpler..
But the colours are gorgeous!!
